A Japanese Control Chart
A classic learning aid reinvented.genius
Based on the classic training video from Dr. Donald J Wheeler, this 1980s film has been enhanced and reinvented to expertly illustrate how control charts are used in the maintenance of a real life process. Used in our Lean Six Sigma training throughout the world, we asked our sister company essential.genius to bring it up to date with new graphics and animations, whilst maintaining all of the original learning points.
Dr Wheeler himself says:
This is a phenomenal example of Constancy of Purpose and Continual Improvement. It shows how easy it is to get the most out of any process by simply attending to the signals given by the process. I have used this example in classes for 26 years, and it is still one of the most powerful examples I know!”
What’s covered?
The film uses new animations and graphics to illustrate the power of control charts in helping monitor and respond to process behaviour. The control chart is shown as a live record of the measures taken and the film illustrates how this resulted in improvements in quality and a process which was stable, predictable and well within the customer’s specification. The 15 minute film takes the user into the heart of a manufacturing process at the Tokai Rika plant in Japan and shows how effective control charts are at not only maintaining a process but how it can become a useful tool for problem prevention.
Who's it for?
This film is ideal for people who understand what control charts are and how to use them, but who need to see them in action to understand why they work. Suitable for anyone from any level of an organisation this film will enable you to relate control chart theory to the practice in an exciting and engaging way. The film can also be used to demonstrate the importance of control charts to team members and colleagues helping to build engagement with an improvement programme.
