About Jan Gillett: Author of ‘Making your Work, Work‘ and ‘Working with the Grain‘.

Jan Gillett was the founder Director of Process Management IJan Gillettnternational Ltd.  in the UK in 1990. He led its development in working with clients in every sector, and in every continent. He has also been a non-executive director in several organisations, helping them rethink their strategies and policies to adjust to changing circumstances.

Jan Gillett has more than forty years of experience in leading, managing and consulting across many different organisations. For the first twenty years of his career Jan worked in large manufacturing and service companies, including seven years as Managing Director of a subsidiary of the Pilkington Group. In the late 1980s, having met quality guru Dr W. Edwards Deming, he led a quality transformation involving 2,000 people, and experienced first hand the remarkable benefits to be had when focusing the work on the customer, involving everyone in learning how it flows, and getting the results on target with minimum variation.

From 1986 – 1990 he was MD of Sketchley Textile Services and led a whole company quality-based transformation from the front for three years.

Jan is a family representative on the Street Family Trustee Company (SFTC), the shareholder body for C and J Clarks Shoes.  In 1994 he helped set up the SFTC to provide a structured focus for family influence into its third century of private ownership. He has also been a non-executive director of several SMEs.

Jan was a founder member of the British Deming Association (BDA ) in 1987 and a director from 1989 – 1996. He was Chairman of the BDA ’s Alliance of Consultants from 1994-96.

Jan is co-author of “Working with the Grain”, a book available from PMI that incorporates the learning of the years of practice in organisational transformation.
